After only a week as the Founder and Executive Director of Cradle Cares Foundation, a nonprofit that helps babies and mothers get the support they need, I knew I made a huge mistake.
I should have started earlier because it is one of the most fulfilling things I’ve done with my life. I served in the United Stated Navy, attended the United States Naval Academy (along with another Board Member), and after being honorably discharged due to injury, spent my days searching for something, some way to serve again.
The mistake: I should have started earlier.
While a career as a Data Scientist was challenging and I did find satisfaction from solving complex problems, I wasn’t solving complex issues. Now, through Cradle Cares Foundation, I’m hopeful that I can start doing just that - solving complex issues. Issues that exist and impact thousands of families in this country, but go unnoticed.
Skepticism surrounding the very existence of tethered oral tissues, among many other time-sensitive conditions, results in delay and inaction when support is crucial. Moreover, negative effects related to breastfeeding, and the long-term implications go unseen. The most invisible, the most unseen, aspect of this is the mother.
A beautiful, yet challenging time that should be honored, supported, and protected is often made more complicated by feeding difficulties. Mothers, often seen as the responsible party for feeding and nourishing their babies often feel…responsible. The reality is that there are a number of factors that are routinely overlooked or ignored. Unfortunately, even if these issues are identified and parents want to seek help, they often face barriers to access. More often than not, there are challenges finding specialized care, long wait times and difficulty scheduling, or financial constraints.
Cradle Cares Foundation was created to solve this issue.
This is why Cradle Cares Foundation was created: to bridge the gap between families and the care they need, when they need it most. With the help of a network of specialized providers, local resources, and generous donors, Cradle Cares Foundation helps mothers know that the care their children need is accessible now, regardless of financial limitations.
If you believe in the importance of timely, specialized care for mothers and babies, I invite you to join us. Whether through donations, partnerships, or simply spreading the word, your support makes a difference.
Together, we can ensure that no mother feels unseen, and no baby goes without the care they deserve.
